Sanders School Tour
Don’t miss this opportunity to view the interior of Blue Island’s historic Sanders School! A limited number of tickets are available online: https://square.link/u/9opqEABp
The design of the building’s original footprint was executed by noteworthy American architect George W. Maher, an important practitioner of what came to be known as the Prairie School of architecture.
The event begins with a lecture at Sid’s Pizza Calabrese, where guests will learn a little about George W. Maher’s life and work along with a brief history of the building. Following the lecture, we’ll trek across the Cal Sag Channel for a guided tour of the building.
Proceeds benefit the Blue Island Historical Society and The George W. Maher Society.
*The building has been in disuse for roughly 20 years now, and is not accessible for those with mobility issues. The interior was prepared for a massive renovation several years ago that was never finished, but while it’s a little rough around the edges, there are still some great original and early details remaining.
