The Carmen & Theresa Amato House
Welcome to 2955 128th St., the one-time home of Carmen and Theresa Amato. Carmen operated the popular and beloved Campus Grill across from Eisenhower High School from 1951 to 1980, feeding scores of hungry students and hardworking teachers and administrators over the years. For so many Eisenhower graduates, Campus Grill is the backdrop of happy memories growing up in Blue Island.
The restaurant is still open under new ownership as Pillich Station Grill. The food is delicious, and you’ll often find groups of former DDE classmates gathering for breakfast or lunch and reminiscing.
The Amatos built this beautiful 1959 split-level home down the street from their restaurant, where they raised their family and were active members of their church and community.
While the nostalgia of this home begins with the former owners, it continues with incredible curb appeal, roof lines, and meticulously kept grounds and gardens. A special surprise waits in the lower level for those of you who are fans of Blue Island’s legendary Raceway Park.
You’ll begin your tour by viewing the finished basement level, then make your way to the second floor for a quick tour of the bedrooms and the homeowner’s impressive guitar collection, and end your tour by viewing the main floor. You’ll then exit through the back door into the backyard garden, which you’ll view before leaving through the side gate toward Sacramento Avenue.
